Sarah Jones was a bright, vivacious member of the Georgia film community and worked as a camera assistant on a number of local productions. Her loss is felt personally and professionally throughout the industry nationwide. To honor her memory, Cinematographers’ Local 600, Cinelease, Film Impact Georgia, and Sarah Jones Film Foundation/Safety for Sarah are working together to create an opportunity to discover more outgoing, passionate and dedicated people like Sarah who want to join the thriving camera community.
Getting a “foot in the door” of the television and filmmaking business is often a daunting and difficult first step. The Sarah Jones Opportunity offers just that: an open door. This project targets people with a passion for camera work who would otherwise not have direct access to our industry.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
The program begins with a 12-14 week paid internship in Atlanta, consisting of 8 hour days in a 5 day work week. The intern will experience a training regimen that, upon successful completion, can lead to a Local 600 camera department position on an established production in Atlanta.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should possess the following attributes…
A strong desire to work in the Camera Department in the film, television and commercial industries
Energetic and eager to learn
A strong work ethic
Be a good communicator and personable
Willing to work long hours
Be a team player
Exhibit a positive attitude
Have a spirit of fostering fun
Prepared to enter the film and television workforce on a full-time basis (all formal studies completed)
Willingness and ability to live within commuting distance of Atlanta, GA
Physically capable of lifting and carrying at least 50lbs
Must be at least 18-years-old
Sarah has a presence on every set I've been on since I started in the industry. Whether it's Sarah's name on slates or tshirts or bracelets, I really believe that the emphasis of safety, and the spreading of Sarah's story has prevented many accidents and injuries. I'm so proud to have started as a Sarah Jones Intern and always try to be aware of set safety.
